Oxytocin 2mg

Also referenced as: oxytocin · research · cognitive research · neuropeptide · nonapeptide · oxytocin receptor · OXTR · cyclic peptide

Oxytocin is a cyclic nonapeptide neurohormone (CAS 50-56-2, C43H66N12O12S2, approximately 1007.19 g/mol) synthesised in the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary. It signals through the oxytocin receptor (OXTR), a G protein-coupled receptor coupled largely to Gq/11 and phospholipase C, and shows partial cross-reactivity with vasopressin receptors — a recognised confound in receptor-selectivity work. Literature describes its established physiological roles in uterine smooth-muscle contraction and milk ejection, and its use as an investigational probe in laboratory studies of social cognition, affiliation and stress-axis signalling, where published human findings are mixed, often small in sample size, and do not establish general behavioural or therapeutic effects. Peripheral and central exposure differ substantially between administration routes, so results reported under one route cannot be assumed to transfer to another. Supplied as 2mg lyophilised powder. Supplier availability or commercial vial strength is not a dose and is not evidence of therapeutic efficacy. For laboratory research use only. Not intended for human or veterinary consumption, and not supplied for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.

Storage
Lyophilised powder: store at −20 °C or below, desiccated and protected from light; short periods at 2–8 °C are tolerated during transport. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation. Once placed in solution, oxytocin is unstable at ambient temperature — hold reconstituted material at 2–8 °C for short-term laboratory work or at −20 °C in single-use aliquots, and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles. Not for human or veterinary use.
